    My parents just cancelled their Foxtel and switched to Hubbl - I think this is where the market is. Older customers wanting to ditch Foxtel - the integration of live channels from binge/kayo with FTA channels is the best part of Hubbl in my opinion. Even the channel numbers are the same as a Foxtel IQ box. So it’s an easy transition for people ditching Foxtel. It is the closest “Foxtel” experience you can get without having Foxtel. My parents are saving close to $100 a month by cancelling Foxtel and switching to Hubbl

      It's often the way as Android phones get that bit older -- but I can't guarantee it everywhere all the time, which is why I stick to original RRP, because while you *might* be able to get it cheaper than RRP (always nice), you shouldn't have to pay *more* than RRP.

    • @Animal_lives_matter
      @Animal_lives_matter 3 дні тому

      @@AlexKidman Yeah I was wrong to say "it is now 249" as that appears to be a temporary sale price, it will probably go back up to 299 after a while, or maybe they are clearing them out to replace it with the G32? I say this as there is no longer a listing to buy it directly from Nokia's AU shop (Lenovo). So the lineup appears to be G04, G24, G34, G84?

  • @Animal_lives_matter

    Thanks a lot for this but what's the deal with the charger - it doesn't come with one in Australia and NZ and says to get the "turbopower" charging capability you need to buy the Motorola branded charger which I can't find anywhere to buy and even if I could it would blow out the price of this phone. Will I be fine buying the generic Kenji branded 20W charger for $12 at Officeworks and how slow will it charge? Did the G24 at least come with a USB-C charging cable because the Keji charger doesn't come with one either! But a reviewer on Officeworks is saying the G24 comes with the cable but no charger - is this correct? What an odd decision by Motorola if true. "Here's the cable but go find the charger yourself".

    • @AlexKidman
      @AlexKidman 3 дні тому

      It's becoming more common in the phone space -- the logic being that many people have had multiple phones, lots of excess chargers (but of course that doesn't help if you don't have one!). I can't speak to that specific charger per se but it *should* work just fine; "Turbopower" is just Motorola's branding on Qualcomm's QuickCharge technology, and its implementation on the G24 isn't even particularly fast; on paper that Kenji 20W charger should deliver everything the G24 can take, but I say that without having tested it specifically. I have plugged the G24 into quite a few chargers I've had, and everything 20W and above registered as Turbopower charging on-screen, though. There is a USB-C type cable in the box with the G24 (and honestly, at least with Officeworks you'd find it fairly easy to return if it didn't work at all).

    • @Animal_lives_matter
      @Animal_lives_matter 3 дні тому

      @@AlexKidman Thanks for the detailed response! In the end I saw they dropped the price of the G54 by $50 across major retailers and that model does include the charger AND the cable so I grabbed one before they all disappear possibly due to the 3G+4G shutdown (I'm on a Nokia 4.2 currently, purchased 2019 from officeworks and it supports 4G VoLTE but somehow isn't "configured" by Nokia to work with Telstra's VoLTE configuration so it's effectively bricked).

    I just bought this one G24 in Lavander, up to 16 Gb/128gb for 130 euros, but today I saw another offer the Moto G54 $GB/128GB for 150 euros, I use the phone only for photos, whatsapps, insta etc, nothing more complicated, now I am still thinking, should I bring back G24 ? or should i order the G54 4GB ram /128Gb ? the G54 comes in midnight blue. What should I do?? I wanted to spend about 100 euros and then for 20 euros more I got a better something, and then for 40 euros more I get something else, I wont buy a phone for more than 150 euros

    • @Animal_lives_matter
      @Animal_lives_matter 3 дні тому

      For only 20 euros extra the G54 is the better choice, but here in Australia it's 50 euros more. But personally I don't want a 5G capable phone so I'd still get the G24 anyway, plus I don't use the phone for much other than calls, photos, text messages, emails, maps, banking, so I don't need G54. Phones are not my whole life, it's just a tool for communication, as long as the call quality is good that's the main thing and the 3.5mm jack has to have clear audio for headset for longer calls, I don't want to hear any humming or buzzing through poor grounding or whatever.

      It would be an option, though the same streaming channels can be accessed through cheaper devices like the Google Chromecast with Google TV or Android Fire TV sticks as well. One factor to be aware of here is that some (it's pretty limited these days, but not unheard of) tv broadcasts aren't covered by their streaming channel due to rights issues; this is most typically seen with sports.

    • @AlexKidman

      No - but then nothing does. An important aspect to realise with any water resistant phone is that all the tests are done in pure lab water and that’s all they count for. The more complex chemical mix in pool water (whether it’s salt or chlorine or whatever) is not accounted for. One drop in a pool *probably* won’t kill it (no guarantees) but repeated exposure will do for any phone.

    Actually, I'm not sure, but I do have some doubts about whether it's a good deal to go for a mid-range product. I always think it might be better to buy a refurbished or second-hand phone that is two or three years old, or even older, which would cost the same price, but at least you're getting something that was considered high-end at the time. For the same price, you get something that is mid-range-is it really worth it after all? Wouldn't it be better to spend 500 euros on an old flagship that was top-of-the-line at its release rather than spending the same amount on something mediocre that you will keep for several years? That's the question I'm pondering.

    I currently have the oppo a52. I paid $300 aud, 4 years ago for it. But its time for an upgrade as the oppo is lagging and heating up quickly. Is the moto g04 similar to the oppo a52? I was thinking about getting the motorola g54. Just to give you an idea i just need a phone that's not laggy, doesnt heat up, decent amount of gb, decent camera (i only use my mobile to take pictures), i can use important apps like email apps, insurance apps, banking apps, adobe, UA-cam and a few others, works fast when both internet from mobile data and modem is connected and battery life is long and charges quick. Thats it. And also what stores do you recommend to by phones and even other electronics from ,both online and in-person? Thanks a lot!

    • @AlexKidman
      @AlexKidman 11 днів тому

      Been a while since I reviewed the Oppo A52, but looking over my performance notes -- they'd be very close in performance terms overall, though the G04 did do a fair bit better in battery life terms than the A52 did in my tests. The issue you'll face in the budget space is (predictably) that you can have some of what you want -- but not all of it, because that's just the way budget phones are. The G54 is a better phone if your budget can run to it, mind, and I'm in the tail end of testing out and writing up the G34 as well, so that might be worth pursuing (though both are more pricey than the G04).

      @@AlexKidman thanks for quick response , Wow, so the g04 is pretty similar to the oppo a52? Thats good to know. Gives me an idea, of knowing atleast if i buy the g04 it would be pretty decent, coz im quite content with the oppo a52 the past 4 years. I could afford the g54, its just if the g04 is good enough, for the things i mention in my original comment, then i may as well save the roughly $150. Idk what would you recommend, are there any other phones that dont break the bank yet still good quality and functions well?

    • @AlexKidman
      @AlexKidman 11 днів тому

      Looking over my notes, the A52's GPU performance is very slightly better than the G04, but not to a level where you'd really see it impacting performance, but the G04's battery test performance was markedly better for the same test. Changes in benchmarking mean I can't do a like-for-like on CPU performance, unfortunately. G54 is a decent buy for the money, and I'm just finishing up my G34 review (sits nicely between the two in price terms) -- that may be a better option as it's got more promised security updates (important if you're talking about functions like banking and other secure apps) while also being 5G ready (which may not matter to you one way or the other, but certainly a nice to have kind of feature). Review of that is coming soon -- should be ready within the next few days in fact.

But maybe g34 is the way to go as you said it sits nicely in between the two. I mean then again the g54 is the same price as the oppo a52 , so maybe i should just go with the g54. Is the g54 a much better phone than the oppo a52? Coz if it's better in terms of function, quality, speed , gb, security etc. All the important features, i might just go for that then.
